Smith Suspended for Sugar Bowl

Left tackle Andre Smith has been suspended for Friday night’s game, so he may have played his last game for Alabama in Atlanta if he opts to make his move to the NFL. He’s already been in contact with the NFL draft advisory board for feedback on his draft status, and a comment by Coach Saban saying “…we will do all we can as an institution to support him in all future endeavors” seems to hint that he may not be back next year.

Members of Congress to Interfere in College Football

Since there are no other important issues for Congress to handle, Rep. Joe Barton of Texas, the ranking Republican on the Energy and Commerce Committee, is introducing legislation that would force college football to adopt a playoff to determine the national champion. The bill is co-sponsored by Illinois Dem. Bobby Rush and Texas Rep. Michael McCaul. There are no specifications on a desired playoff system, only that the BCS should go.

Well They Lost, What Can I Say

I was hoping Alabama would play a little better than they did but Florida just had their number. Oh well, we had a better regular season than anybody would have guessed, that’s a positive note. Can’t get much better than 12-0. Everyone, myself included, at the bar I hang out at were thinking maybe 8-4 or 9-3 before the season started. Hopefully Arenas can remember what to do on kick returns before we get to the Sugar Bowl.

Tuberville Out as Auburn Football Coach

Tommy Tuberville has stepped down as the Auburn Tigers head coach after ten seasons. I’ve been busy most all day and am just getting around to hearing this, I know I’m a bit late on the news. Auburn has reached out to Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach to gauge his interest in the opening. Who knew Alabama could end a win streak and a coaching career in one shutout. But I saw this coming long before now.

The Keys to Winning Over Florida

With the SEC Championship game now just a couple of days away, I’m sure most Alabama fans are spending their time mulling over a possible win this Saturday. I know I’m one of them. If I didn’t work for myself my boss would probably have to talk to me about lack of productivity. The keys to beating the Gators are straightforward and simple, and within the Tide’s abilities.

Alabama Shuts Out Auburn, Goes Undefeated

The Crimson Tide remained undefeated for the regular season as they shut the Auburn Tigers out 36-0. This wasn’t just about remaining undefeated, this was about shutting down the Auburn win streak. The Tide looked average in the first half, only leading 10-0, but remained focused in the 2nd half to bring a shut out that made every Alabama fan’s day. Alabama carries their undefeated season to Atlanta to face the Florida Gators.

Croom Resigns as Mississippi State Head Coach

After five years, Sylvester Croom has resigned as Missisissippi State head coach. The Bulldogs were humiliated in a 45-0 loss against the Ole Miss Rebels on Friday night, losing 96 yards on sacks alone and being held to -51 yards rushing, in one of the most lopsided Egg Bowls in history. Croom’s record is 21-38 overall, 10-30 in the SEC. MSU had just one winning season, 8-5, 4-4 in 2007, which earned them a trip to the Liberty Bowl.

Tigers and Gators and Bowling, Oh My

The success of the Crimson Tide under Nick Saban in only his second year as head coach has come as quite a surprise to most. While the Tide was all but an afterthought during preseason chatter, Alabama is certainly on the lips of many across the country in November. As the only remaining undefeated BCS team, the possibility of that long-awaited thirteenth championship looms on the minds of players and fans alike.

Texas Tech Manhandled In Norman

While the hype of the (2)Texas Tech - (5)Oklahoma game was a buildup off the field, the performance on the field was less than spectacular, at least for the Red Raiders. Texas Tech was beaten in every aspect of the game while Oklahoma put on one of their best performances. The Sooners easily controlled the ball on offense and left nothing for the Raiders with a stout defense. At least for a week, Bama will be alone at the top.

Coach of the Year: Go Vote!

Although I’m a bit biased, the fact that Nick Saban has turned the ailing Crimson Tide program around in only his second year as coach, when most all of the media had counted Bama out for at least one more year, that’s why he gets my vote. We’re a national contender, whether we make it or not, we’re going to the SEC Championship for the first time in nearly a decade, I think he’s shown what a good coach can do. So Go Vote!
